PATF was a lot more inventive than Tangled. And it had a better male lead.

I prefer Princess and the Frog but Tangled definitely seems more popular overall. I agree with anon's assessment that Tiana is more likely to be ignored than Rapunzel.

The lead spent 80% of the movie as a frog, even though they made one of the prettiest character designs, and the movie loses so much steam during the middle. Tangled is cheesy but at least it's exciting.

Seriously. They rewrote the plot so that Dr. Facilier wouldn't shape-change because they loved his design so much, and then they turned the character who was supposed to be the marketing drive behind the entire film into a nondescript animal.

Dr. Faciller was supposed to be a shapeshifter? Talk about 'what could have been'.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-20 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
AYRT

Not a shapeshifter in and of himself, but he was originally supposed to take Naveen's form instead of the other guy. They turned that around and added the "can't do spells on/for myself" rule because they decided Facilier was cooler to look at than Naveen.

So they re-wrote the plot for THAT but it didn't cross their mind to do the same for Tiana, damn.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-20 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
Well, Tiana getting turned into a frog and going on a journey to find the cure was kind of the point of the movie, so that would have been less "a little tweak over here" and more "let's have an entirely different plot." Which I'm not disagreeing they should have done, because the plot was not an interesting one, but they're not really comparable.

To be fair, they were right. Part of the reason "Friends on the Other Side" was so awesome was of how they animated him. They did SUCH a good job on how fluid he was!

Princess and the Frog is prettier, but it's dull as dishwater and horribly paced.
otakugal15: (fucks)

Yep.

I like Tiana, but I still have yet to buy her movie. Tangled I got almost as soon as it came out.

I agree with that. But Rapunzel still seems to be included when talking about the princesses more often.
