Thank you. I grew up loving Miyazaki's films but I have never been impressed by the animation style or animation itself. It's pretty and nicely designed but never WHOA! how long did it take them to animate that? Especially when you compare them to Disney. Like compare the sea scene of Ponyo to The Little Mermaid and the Little Mermaid is animated way better. And it's twenty years older! Though Ponyo is one of my nephew's favorite movies. And he would ticked to hear me say that. But I believe it's true.

So how would the clock tower scenes from Castle of Cagliostro and the Great Mouse Detective compare, do you think? It's not Ghibli, but it'd be a better direct example since Musker was paying homage, iirc.

The water in Ponyo looked distractingly terrible. YEAH I GOT WHAT THEY WERE GOING FOR, but hand-drawn water doesn't need to look that terrible.
