Check out thrift stores, craigslist and secondhand shops for stuff like tables, end tables, etc. Obviously this will be more applicable if you're not picky about style, but it could save you some money. Often older furniture is pretty damn study even if it's not gorgeous. I bought a coffee table for $10 at Salvation Army that's really old-fashioned looking (dark wood, shelves and a cabinet underneath) but it's so solid I could stand on it without it wobbling and I am NOT a small person.

Nope, not terribly picky about style at all. Just want it to be sturdy and not easily fall apart, fit into the apartment, and not take Herculean strength to move it an inch.
