Yaoi and slash are not the same thing. Yaoi is a subgenre of slash and is that whole rapey strong-seme-"woos"-reluctant-uke thing with sparkles and creepiness. Slash on the whole is good though, if it's kept as in character as possible and the female-bashing is kept well-away from it.

Nah. Yaoi and slash are two different words for m/m deriving from different fandom traditions (anime/manga vs. western tv shows). There's shitty yaoi fic just like there's shitty slash fic. I find it hilarious to see someone claim slash is overall free of bashing female characters.

Emphasised the word that you seem to have missed. Bashing female characters turns a fic into a bad one automatically, for me.

So wrong it hurts. Yaoi has nothing to do with slash, it's a manga genre. Slash is a western thing, yaoi is Japanese.

And shonen manga and some cape comics are both for boys (and manchildren) but no one would say that they are the same. The only thing the have in common is the demography.

Yaoi can have rapey tones, but it certainly does not have to. That is hardly a prerequisite of yaoi. Have you not read much yaoi doujinshi, or...? I know the association exists for a reason, but I have to shake my head at anyone who claims that rape is the foundation of the yaoi genre, because it's kind of really not.

If you can rec me some yaoi manga/doujins without the rapey undertones and the weepy-uke and stong-seme tropes I'll certainly give it a look. I'm just saying things from my experience of the genre.

And, tbh, I gave up after the twentieth FMA rec where Ed looked like a girl with a penis.

Yep!

Doukyuusei, Renai Houteishiki, Amato Amaro, Aitsu no Daihonmei, Honto Yajuu, Hana wa Saku ka, Koi Cha No Osahou, Fake.

Pretty much anything by Miyamoto Kano and Kunieda Saika, their work consistently avoids that shit (not perfectly, but rapey stories are a minority), very heavy on plot and characters with a side of (consensual) porn. Mirai no Kioku (and its sequel Kaze no Yukue) from Kunieda are a great place to start with her. The massive Rules universe, with one long main story and a shitload of side stories, is Kano's best work. I'm very sensitive to rapey weepy uke tropes and those two are one of the very few whose work I can go into blindly without my yaoi armor on.

...yaoi armor...fer Chrissakes. I really can't blame you for being skeptical of this shit. The only reason I've got the above examples is after years of wading through crap. You're right that it's 80% rape and tears. It's just the few gems are so so good.

Finding one where it's entirely absent ... yeah, I don't know nearly enough to suggest anything there.

However, if you can stand one more rec, (grins) I say take a look at Crimson Spell, which is a fantasy-romance yaoi. The very first encounter between the sorcerer and the Prince's demonic alter ego is dub-connish (some see it as more shading into non-con: I don't) but that's it. The Prince himself is conflicted and having a relationship with a man, but he ain't no weepy flower, and the sorcerer never forces himself on the unwilling.

(And the art is kinda gorgeous.)

Crimson Spell is by the same mangaka as Finder, right?

Yes. It's set in a high fantasy-type medieval setting.

There are tons of yaoi manga without that shit. There's a lot of crap, but there are a lot of good ones out there.
