Misuse of "literally" and "utilize"

This is a weird one but one that is relevant to me right now. When people call 'Steve Rogers,' Steve Rodgers.

That misspelling makes me crazy on levels that would make Bruce Banner say "Dial it back a notch, dude."

It amazes me when people spell a characters name wrong in fic. (Or on a regular basis if they consider themselves a fan.)

I get doing it accidentally on tumblr or something (Maybe you were typing too fast, it was a mistake, whatever) but... Seriously? A quick Google search can fix that. (I've seen my fair share of Styles on reddit and it baffles me.)

When someone clearly means to say 'lose' but says 'loose' instead

it drives me absolutely insane

It's gotten to the point where I stop and celebrate when I actually see it spelled "lose".

It drives me crazy too, EXCEPT in the incorrect context of somebody "loosing their shit." Then I just laugh and laugh.

"per say"

And the word that I can never actually say and my brain trips over it when I try to so much as read it, and I had to google for the spelling... "entrepreneur".

"Educator" instead of "teacher" or "professor." Anyone who says they're an "educator" is guaranteed to be a pretentious asshole.

Spelling a character's name two different ways on the same page. (Winner today: a FIMfic in which Fizzle becomes Fizzel becomes Fissel, then back again. I half expected him to become Sissel and make it a Ghost Trick crossover.)

Unfortunately, I don't have just one that does that to me.

Putting an apostrophe in the possessive form of "its".

I know, it's not a very original crazybutton, but I am what I am.

Inappropriate use of punctuation. There are two posters on a forum I hang out on who exemplify the extremes of this: one basically skips all punctuation half the time, the other has a semicolon every four words. It's ridiculous. I'm more sympathetic towards the first one, because she's dyslexic; the other one has nothing at all to excuse him.

your/you're and there/their/they're - I can't

"It didn't phaze me" - NO

using the letters u and r instead of writing out you and are. Bonus points if you also use 2 for to/too and 4 instead of for. I just cannot take you seriously if you type like that, and it's painful to read. (Exceptions when you're using them in a particular phrase they're stylized in, like saying "u mad")

I don't mind misspelling if the person just can't spell or if it's a typo. Some people are dyslexic, and sometimes typos happen to be the best of us. I have a horrible habit of typing faster than I think - just now I typed "horribel," and had to fix it. I noticed in time to edit, but sometimes you don't. But there's people who seem to do it on purpose, because it's "cool" to not know the difference between you're and your, and I just don't... get that.

"feels" as a noun.

I seriously want to reach into the monitor, grab whoever typed it, and punch them in the face. Even if it's someone I know and normally like.

I'm pressing these beserk buttons all the time, tbh.

Unless someone's intentionally making their writing hard to read and ironic for cool points (think of the atrocities known as tumblr-style powerpoints), I don't really care.

When people use "literally" wrong, which is the vast majority of the time nowadays. I've actually taken to replacing it with "really" or "totes" when I read it in a sentence.

I just found one: Sentient and Sapient.

Sentient means a creature has some level of awareness. Sapient means they're intelligent.

Humans are homo Sapiens, not Homo Sentients.

The problem is, even mass media uses "sentient" to mean intelligent, so very few people really understand the real meaning.

"Loose" instead of "lose." If it's an isolated typo, I understand, but if it crops up three or more times in a fic? It drives me up the wall.

"Except" instead of "accept" also annoys me quite a bit.

wierd.

Especially when used in reference to "Weird Al" Yankovic.

Like it's on all his albums how can you not spell it if you know who he is enough to talk to me about him.
