POC. If I called anyone black person I know a 'person of color' they would sideye me like crazy. They are not even particularly fond of "African American" because they are not from Africa nor are their ancestors.

POC is just colored person that people try to justify because IT'S PEOPLE FIRST! Also, stop lumping every non-white person together.

As I understand it, POC was mainly meant to mean "non-white person" in a nonspecific sense. So it is kind of "lumping every non-white person together," but since racism so often affects the catchall category of "everyone who isn't white," a shorter term for that became useful.

I even try to avoid using it unless I'm talking to someone who I know prefers it, but hey, most of the people I know who do use it are "POC" themselves, so...

This. All of this.

My ancestors are not Southeast Asian / Pacific Islander / Aboriginal Australian / Latin American / East Indian / Native American / First Nations / Yoruba / Masai / Tibetan / Afghani / whatever. There is absolutely nothing wrong with any of those heritages. But just because we're all darker of pigment than Whitey, we get lumped together? That's BS.
