Don't know enough of Homestuck to judge, but Hans and Loki are shit tier.

I would call Eridan markedly less successful then either of the others, especially at manipulation. He's... what was it, "a desperate and unpleasant person", and (effectively) racist, and entertained himself by plotting mass murder he didn't have the means to carry out. Later on he snapped under pressure and decided it was a good idea to betray his friends, killed the girl he was crushing on, doomed his species, and was chainsawed in half. The end.

This is Eridan Ampora. He's a white scientist (which is more or less corresponds to our cultures equivalent of a black magician) who admires Alien Sea Hitler and wants to genocide 10 of his race's 12 ethnicities. But he'll fuck them. Anybody who's interested, really. God why is nobody interested he's so SUPERIOR AND HE TOLD YOU ABOUT IT. Also he wishes he weren't friendzoned (Bitches man).

He ultimately succeeds in the genocide of his race, and murders some of the few people who ever gave a shit about him. If one of them didn't get better, he was going to betray the rest to the big bad of the story arc, because he honestly believed it was his job to destroy hope.

The only character worse then him in homestuck is his dancestor, an alternate reality counterpart of him who's otherkin and more molesty. They end up going on a date after they die and will probably fuck.

Well, now I have summer, I'm gonna try and catch up.

I mean this in the least-mean way possible, but in the future, since you do post gifs a lot and you do follow homestuck, can you please not use strobing images like this one? It triggers my photosensitivity and gives me migraines.

Eridan is also 13.

But if you really think about it: If you met those characters as real, existing people in RL, would you still like them? Personally, I have had a lot of characters that I loved so much in their fandom of origin, but probably would have punched them in the teeth in RL. So fandom crushes -for me - don't really reflect a RL taste in men/women.

Was about to say similar anon. Every time this sort of secret comes up I feel that I like to give people the benefit of the doubt and assume they know the difference between fiction/fantasy and reality. So unless you proved to me otherwise, I would not assume anything about your taste in real men.

That is a very good point and I agree with it.

I happen to love Squall Leonhart as a character. I'd find him an annoying ass in real life. I'd probably think even worse of Thorin Oakenshield and Bilbo Baggins would be far too proper for me.

I still like these characters because of their stories.

Seek therapy for that internalized misogyny.

Gotta admit, I lol'd at this.

Hans is pretty much the best. I hope that he becomes the next Gaston, where everybody knows that he's terrible, but we love him anyway. Tons of merchandise, his own face-character at Disneyland/Disney World... ah yeah. Gimme all of that.

out of curiosity, why do you love Hans so much?
I personally found him a little bland and kind of... obvious evil. He didn't even have Gaston's style, which makes Gaston entertaining...

Oh, Hans is definitely a YMMV kind of character. I realize that a lot of viewers thought that he was "obvious evil" but I'm one of the people that was completely blindsided by his betrayal, and the duality of Hans fascinates me. Upon repeat viewings of the film, I find Hans' two-faced nature as entertaining as Gaston's over-the-top love for himself... All of his lines and facial expressions have a duality to them, since I know now that there's a hidden motive behind everything he says and does. Personally, I think it's really cool, but I can understand why someone who recognized Hans' true intentions from the very beginning might find him boring.

On that note, I'd loooooove to interact with a Hans face-character at Disneyland. Would he have to act like the sweet, charming version of Hans that's trying to win your trust? Or does he lose all pretense and act like a smug prince? I'm so freaking fascinated by the concept!

Ok, I get you. Tbh, now that you mention it, I do think a Hans face-character would be interesting; I wonder how they'd play him. I suppose part of it has to do with how the kids are meant to perceive him, no? If he's too nice it might be kind of confusing for young children...

I think for me it's not so much that I was suspicious of him from the start as that when he did his about-face, I was like "oh, one of those". He reminded me a bit of Mother Gothel in the pretending-to-care department, but I did like how she was presented as far more emotionally manipulative, and her pretense of caring went way further. With him, he never cared, so he's just another straightforward manipulative guy who wanted power.

I think that a Hans face-character might try to play it as both: "smug" when he's around adults, but "sweet" with little children. It might confuse some of them, but I think a lot of kids would remember that Hans only "pretends" to be nice. I mean, when Gaston face-characters meet children that love him, he kind of turns into a sweetheart. I saw this one little girl give him a big hug and say "I love you, Gaston!" and he just hugged her right back and said, "I love you, too!" I can imagine face-character Hans trying to win little "princesses" hearts, being sweet to them and asking if they come from a beautiful kingdom. He might even be EXTRA nice to little girls dressed as Anna, because that would be really cute.

As cute as that Gaston story is, I'm really sad to hear he didn't respond by hugging her back and saying:

"I love me too!"

I adore Hans, the doe eyed sociopathic disney prince thing is something that is somehow appealing to me, idk, obviously not in a real life context but

(Anonymous) 2014-06-22 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
I know, right? It's like Hans was specifically crafted to appeal to my fangirlish needs. A Disney Prince who is also a Disney Villain, what the hell Disney are you literally trying to kill me.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-22 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
They're not real. If you don't treat fictional characters like real people, (Let's be real, for all the deluded fans stick out the majority doesn't do this) then just enjoy your fantasy crushes.
