yeah i disagree

part of why i don't watch anime anymore is because something about the particular style of (mainstream, anyway) japanese animation bugs me. and it isn't just because of the eyes.

and slightly off topic, but unpopular opinion. i think the way the new sailor moon anime is colored is hideous. i don't care about the way it's drawn itself, but the colors and shading looks like shit.

agreed on both parts.

The coloring is pretty bad. Especially the coloring on Usagi's hair. Way too bright

I don't think that's an unpopular opinion. I don't agree with it (I like the colors but nothing else), but I've seen many other people say it.

I think when coloring went digital the palettes became a lot more bright for both cartoons and anime, I definitely miss the more muted and earthy colors of pre-digital.

Maybe it's just that that was the era that I grew up in, but that transitional era of a blend of cel and CG was really distinctive and beautiful for a lot of studios. I love the style and palettes of Bebop, Outlaw Star, Blue Sub, Witch Hunter Robin, etc.

They had way better music too.

Her hair isn't any brighter than it was back in the last season of the original series. I'd say it's pretty damn close, actually, if you can find a slightly cleaner version of the season.

The colors look nice and fun and fit, imo.

DA

I dunno. It seems a bit more glaringly bright than in the last anime. I'm a bit worried that I may not be able to watch because of it. I suffer from migraines and watching it may trigger one just from her hair alone.

the outlines are light brown, that's what makes it seem brighter, for one.

+1 on the first one. The colouring in SMC doesn't bug me so much, I'm very much happy that all the red bits on her outfit are finally pink tinted, but dear god is the art style absolutely atrocious.

I admit I don't really understand this complaint, because the art style looks basically like an animated version of the manga art...?

Those huge eyes, pointed chins and mouth slits make them look like insects.
