Same here. I liked the movie when I was a little kid but then I read the book along with The Great Glass Elevator. I know it's a cliche but the book is so much better. And inventive in the candy department.

That's why I liked the new one, though. Even though there were some story changes, they didn't feel like they were against the spirit of the book. I think the new version got the tone right, got the characters right (Depp's Wonka has that weird and also kind of creepy feel to him that book Wonka does), and got the feel of the world right.

Not to say its a perfect movie, and the worst parts were the parts where it strayed from the book story, but at least it got a lot right and felt like it was set int he world of the book.
