Well I have to join the small group of apostates and say I liked the 2005 one better.

I read the book first and all the changes in the older movie from the original story really put me off. I also disliked how the Oompa Loompas' songs were just rehashes of the same damn song, and didn't like the idea of Charlie also doing something wrong as well.

The newer movie stuck closer to book, had unique songs every time the Oompa Loompas did a number, had Charlie being, rightfully, the one child who didn't play up. I didn't mind Depp's Wonka much and felt he was an interesting kind of disturbingly weird. I could have lived without the daddy issues plot he had, but I can live with that too.

I also liked Deep Roy's Oompa Loompas.
