What did you like before it was cool?

Firefly. I was watching when it first aired and Fox couldn't decide what slot to give it or what order to show episodes in.

My Little Pony.

I read Brokeback Mountain years before the movie was made. The trailer was just "hold a sec, I know this story... and how it ends..."

The Dresden Files. I was a fan at the very beggining of the fandom, (which is sadly not v. active at the mo)
Otherwise I'm not a hipster. Well, I read the first Harry Potter before all the fuss hit me and promptly forgot about it, and then was 'wtf, I remember reading the book, where did I put it, I swear I randomly bought it and read one evening.'

I loved the X-Men way before the movies and was one of those annoying fans who was muttering "that's not like in the comics".

Way before watching and reviewing "bad" movies and B-movies was cool, I used to hit up Blockbuster every other day and pick up the best worst sounding movie I could find, watch it and write a review/recap of it if it was funny enough. Now people name drop shit like Sharknado and think they know bad movies or B-movies. It pisses me off.

Harry Potter to some extent - it was already cool to like it, but mostly if you were eight years old, and I was fourteen so I was on the fringes of it being socially acceptable. It definitely wasn't acceptable to be a nerd about it.

This is a kid fandom, but American Girl. It made me so sad when it started being more about the dolls, because damn it, when I was seven/eight it was all about Molly, Addy and Kirsten. (Samantha and Felicity annoyed me.) Even within a year or two people were more about the dolls and stuff. (I don't think they were as insanely expensive either at that point. I don't think, maybe they were, I never cared about the dolls.))

Can we designate friends? :P Years and years ago this friend of mine was telling me about a really good book she'd read, about this girl named Katniss who lived in a dystopia and had to participate in this horrific annual game where teenagers fought each other. That sounded so weird to me, so I sort of listened politely, then went on my merry way.

Yeah... :P

It's not quite the same, but I was super into Shakespeare's history plays long before The Hollow Crown; I'm the type who's even seen performances of King John and Henry VIII. And now if I mention loving Richard II, it's assumed I'm just a bandwagoner who's into it for Ben Wishaw and stuff. NOPE. Actually, I have some pretty major gripes with THC.

I'm dating myself here, buuut....I was into the Backstreet Boys when I was 14. This was about 2 years before they became big. A friend had somehow gotten a demo copy.

When I was a kid I visited family in America, and I watched Digimon there before it reached the UK. Does that kinda count?

I don't see what it matters, but I think Bucky himself would almost count at this point. From comics (especially) OR Cap 1, because so many people disliked that movie or didn't care for him in it.

Mass Effect, I guess? (Maybe BioWare in general, though I haven't played ALL their stuff and now liking BioWare isn't 'in' either so we've gone full circle.)

Does House count? Again, lots of people stopped liking House in the later seasons, but I watched it from the very beginning and loved it.
