Ugh. The more I learn about this show, the less and less and less appealing it becomes to me. And I disliked it from the start, so that's saying something!

And what exactly did you learn from this secret?

well, the main reason i initially didn't like it was because it seemed like really pretentious porn. so many sex scenes and so much excessive violence, which screamed to me like it was serious overcompensation so the audience doesn't bore of the plot. a ridiculously drawn-out sex scene while characters drone on in monologue about extremely boring plot events, but don't worry, because boobs!!!

i also tend not to enjoy medieval fantasy settings. it seems like a show that has bad characters, bad fans, and bad writing/plot devices.

from the looks of the comments here, it's another case of excessive violence + overly dramatic plot point + fans freaking out over everything.

Well, though GRRM's prose is really flawed, I'd say the books are much better than the show. The show has taken away character depth from practically everyone, has fallen into a predictable formula, has deviated a lot from the source material, is getting progressively more misogynist and I swear season 4 had pointless sex scenes and boobs in every freaking episode. Not to mention enough graphic, exploitative rape to make you shudder in disgust. I'd recommend giving the books a try, though it sounds like you're not one for grimdark, which the series generally is. But it has interesting subversions of character and fantasy tropes and really great female characters.
