Because a shocking amount of people don't know the basic food groups and don't know how to prepare balanced vegetarian meals that aren't some form of salad or boiled pasta.

But those people are going to feed their kids badly whether they're veggie or not. Meat isn't a panacea. It's not the Diet that's the problem, it's the diet.

Sure, but let's not pretend the results are identical. If a bad vegetarian diet lacks protein, a bad non-vegetarian diet likely won't simply because SOME meat will be consumed even if the diet also includes too much fat, carbs, etc.

If you're so shitty at meals that leaving out the meat creates a protein deficiency, the protein deficiency is the smallest of the problems.

And that's of course before accounting for the fact that veg*ism isn't just "leaving out the meat".

Those people wouldn't be able to feed their kids properly anyway. Adding meat doesn't make this diet better. McDonald's and fried chicken isn't going to help those kids.

... unless one of the problems is a lack of protein, in which case burgers and fried chicken aren't the healthiest sources of protein, but they're still protein.

Since we're talking in pure hypotheticals here, this isn't even a helpful scenario. Most Westerners (at least Americans) actually OVEREAT meat, so there's that. I am very comfortable going out on a limb here and suggesting that people who maintain long term vegetarian diets are probably more likely to pick healthier choices (including alternative protein sources) than the average omnivore.

NO ONE in any developed nation getting three squares a day is lacking in protein. You'd literally have to be starving to death.

Do you even know how much protein is recommended per day? Have you checked a nutritional label recently?
