Well, if you considered The Great Mouse Detective and Watership Down "one-note" and "meaningless fluff" but liked Fantastic Mr. Fox, IDK what to tell you. /s

In all seriousness, part of your problem may be that you were trying to challenge your assessment that the genre is "for children", but still watched movies aimed at children, like TGMD and Frozen and HTTYD. They're good movies and adults can enjoy them, but they're not targeted at us.

If you're still open to try some things, I'd recommend basically everything from Studio Ghibli, but particularly Howl's Moving Castle, Princess Mononoke, and Spirited Away, as those are the ones that are the most acclaimed and have pretty clear adult/significant messages.

Also, Kirikou et la Sorcière. I fucking love that movie. Everyone should watch it, it's on Youtube and everything.
