From what I've heard, in the book she's a lot more selfish (apparently Lily goes into an alcohol-induced coma and Andy hesitates in visiting her because Paris!*), so they probably kept the sentiment of the book but made it less obvious what the issue is. But yeah, I honestly felt the same way; besides, what do you want to bet half the cast and crew didn't see their own friends and family for ages while making the movie? It always strikes me as hypocritical when major film companies make movies about not being selfish and working too hard for some insane corporation when, well...

*I could be completely wrong about that. This is all based on hear say.

SA

I did wonder why Andyw ouldn't just have her phone off at important times, though... yes, ignoring it was clearly not an option, but you can't do much if someone's phone is off, can you? Or can you?

It's true. I read the book many, many years ago but I do recall that Lily was hospitalized at one point and that was the slip-up that Andrea beat herself up over the most. Since the book was a memoir-of-sorts written in the first person, you kind of take the narrator's words at their face value, so when she told us she sucked, I believed it.

In the movie, not so much. I was sympathetic with Andy all the way, especially these past two years I've been working in a similar job.
