I love those things because my terrible sense of humor finds them hilarious, but because of them I'll never be able to read anything else by James Joyce and take it seriously.

I've always felt bad about not having read his other works, but... yeah.

Dubliners is good, and Portrait of the Artist is also good. I related to the Catholic school inner life stuff in Portrait really strongly, even though I went to Catholic school 100 years after Joyce and my adolescence involved far fewer brothels.

Ulysses and Finnegans Wake are worth reading for certain values of "worth" and "reading," but in a different way.
