I forget the author, but when I was in high school I read a book called Life in the Fat Lane, which I thought would be empowering. It suggests disabled kids have it easier in school than overweight kids (the wording is "would you rather be fat or stupid?" which is problematic in itself, but beyond that, people were far more accepting of overweight kids at my school than disabled kids), and it just... felt like the author was saying if you suddenly become overweight, your life is horrible. Apparently the author herself is heavy, but honestly, I pictured her as some skinny soccer Mom who felt so sorry for her fat sisters. Because that's how she came across. Ugh.
