Anne Rice's book with the witch Rowan? (I sort of think this was called Talos?) ... some of her earlier stuff was fun, but that book put her in the "never again" category for me.

... as did Hannibal by Thomas Harris, which I stood in line at midnight to buy when it was released, read non-stop, and then threw it across the room in disgust around chapter 90.

Ouch! I haven't actually read Hannibal yet, but I've heard a lot of mixed stuff about it. Why is it so shitty?

YMMV, but for me the ending of Hannibal was just ... I think I yelled, " You have GOT to me kidding!" and literally did throw the book across the room. For me it seemed like Harris just took a major dump on Clarice's character, and ... I did not care for it.

(I remember thinking at the time that Harris must have hated it all those years as people bugged him about when eh was going to do a sequel to Silence of the Lambs, and so he made the sequel so repulsive in order to ensure that no one ever bugged him again.)
