Interpretation gone very, very wrong. There's a few examples above, like people doing the 'Ron the Death Eater' thing or pairing up siblings (I also really, really love the 'found family' theme, so would be seriously creeped out if people paired up unrelated characters who I was writing as having, say, almost a parent-child relationship), but also things like... claiming that sympathetic but broken antagonists are IRREDEEMABLY EVIL OMG (he's not my character, but I'm actually seeing that a bit in my current fandom, with people claiming that Lysandre from Pokemon XY is totally evil and without redemption or depth, and just... no), or that flawed protagonists who do shitty things are beautiful angels who can do no wrong (or, well, ACTUALLY IRREDEEMABLY EVIL OMG, heh).

I don't know, people taking very black-and-white views of characters with nuance, I guess?
