The brown part on the tail is in the wrong place.

I think Pikachu has fewer fingers.

that tail is making me uncomfortable

it feels so wrong

(Anonymous) 2014-06-24 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I often change designs for fanart based on my own personal preference,
and don't research all my fanart designs 100%, because it's more about having fun than anything.

But have fun with your self-righteousness, I guess.
I'm going to be over here, racking up notes and enjoying myself.
(And by that, I mean not taking this bullshit super seriously.)

+1

I like you, Anon.

You can have fun and still get the details right. All it takes is 5 minutes with Google. C'mon, anon, have some pride in your work!

I generally don't find that I care unless the change is ugly.

"you can just tell it they made it for notes"
or maybe, you know

for fun

No! It can only be for attention whoring!

(Anonymous) 2014-06-24 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Did what for notes? Made the mistake to get notes? Did the art to get notes? I'm not following.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-24 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it's "made the art just to get notes"

what counts as an obvious mistake in this case? aside from folks muddling with colour choices?

(Anonymous) 2014-06-25 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
So when you make art OP, and post in online, are you not doing it for "the notes?" Are you not doing it for attention?

(Anonymous) 2014-06-25 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
I knew a couple jerks in the Pokémon fandom who would throw hissy fits (sometimes directly to the artist) about incredibly tiny details that made the design non-canon, stuff like "the shape of this detail on the paw of this one Pokémon is elliptical and not round". Not even making this shit up.

Wonder if it's one of them who made this secret, and if it is, I hope they're seeing the responses in the comments because they are some of the most stuck-up bitches I've ever seen in fandom and they really need to learn that fandom is supposed to be fun, that nobody owes them shit, and that making some poor 13-year-olds miserable over their insane standards of Pokémon fan art is ABSURD.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-25 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
I can ttly believe it anon. People nitpick over the stupidest things.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-25 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
Actually, someone who draws the brown on the wrong side of Pikachu's tail is more likely to be drawing out of love and nostalgia. That's someone who recalls that Pikachu has brown on its tail somewhere (a pretty small detail to be remembering!), but just misremembered where exactly. If someone is drawing "for the notes", whatever that means, I'd think they'd be more likely to look it up and get it right, because what even does Pikachu look like, they're gunna check to better trick everyone into reblogging or whatever conspiracy you think it is.

No one else cares about this stuff as much as you do, not even the developers, considering they've drastically changed some designs along the way, sometimes even pretty clearly by mistake (Crobat has feet? Which Eeveelutions have pawpads anyway? What exact shade of orange is Growlithe? Was Butterfree supposed to be Venomoth? Is the original Vaporeon even the same Pokemon? What happened to Sneasel's and Spinarak's color palettes? What color is shiny Charizard?).

(Anonymous) 2014-06-25 02:37 am (UTC)(link)
Well, damn, I've been doing fanart this whole time for the wrong reasons!
I was of the impresion I had to do it for the fun, you see, to share an idea with my fellow fans and see if someone enjoy it too, even if it was not remotely perfect. I'm so sorry. I wasn't aware I had to meet an standard.

Let me enroll in a school to learn technical drawing, master the technique and hopefully, after five years I'll be able to draw fanart again.

Wouldn't immediately running for a reference be even more evidence of drawing fanart "solely for notes," instead of based on memory?

After all, if you're drawing something based on prior or continuing interest, surely your immediate response isn't "BETTER MAKE SURE I REMEMBER THIS RIGHT LOL."
You assume you remembered it correctly, because you already liked the thing.
You don't question yourself. You just draw.

I ran into this issue with myself recently, actually, because this entire time, I've been drawing the crescents on Sailor Moon's boots completely within the white lining.
And they aren't. They overlap the stripe and the boot color.
I was not aware of this.
Even though I've frequently drawn her and been a huge fan of the series for almost 20 years.

People fuck up. People do things on purpose.
Don't assume stuff about their intent, based on your own obsessiveness to tiny, insignificant detail.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-25 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
Personally I really like fanart that messes with the design, I don't like carbon copy fanart, it usually ends up being really stiff and uninteresting.

Part of the fun of art is using your imagination, I love artists who insert their personality into things, even if someone else might consider it a "mistake."

But you know, I'm also one of those people that does fanart for my own enjoyment, so silly me thinking I didn't need to follow a character design model sheet exactly in my spare time when I'm a professional artist who has to budget her fanart time.

[personal profile] paperghost 2014-06-25 06:19 am (UTC)(link)
...I'm honestly not bothered by the "mistake" in that picture at all?

If anything what sticks out to me is that it looks exactly like a specific official art.
