Wouldn't immediately running for a reference be even more evidence of drawing fanart "solely for notes," instead of based on memory?

After all, if you're drawing something based on prior or continuing interest, surely your immediate response isn't "BETTER MAKE SURE I REMEMBER THIS RIGHT LOL."
You assume you remembered it correctly, because you already liked the thing.
You don't question yourself. You just draw.


I ran into this issue with myself recently, actually, because this entire time, I've been drawing the crescents on Sailor Moon's boots completely within the white lining.
And they aren't. They overlap the stripe and the boot color.
I was not aware of this.
Even though I've frequently drawn her and been a huge fan of the series for almost 20 years.

People fuck up. People do things on purpose.
Don't assume stuff about their intent, based on your own obsessiveness to tiny, insignificant detail.
