Even if you don't think Joss Whedon's work is very feminist, you have to give him credit for what he's done to support Equality Now and the opportunities he's given women to be writers and showrunners.

Yeah this. Every time I see someone slamming Joss Whedon for not being a feminist, I point them to his support of Equality Now.

And tell them to walk there barefoot? Because Joss likes his women in bare feet. Fairly certain he is active in trying to make women's footwear illegal.

What, so if you have a kink you must want everyone to do it and be it all the time? I like my men submissive and able to take pain, but that doesn't mean I'm advocating for all men to be that way.

Ugh @ you. Seriously, I find these types of comments more disturbing than anything Joss Whedon ever did. I wish I could believe you were joking around, and not exaggerating with your hate boner in full erection.

And even if he did, who cares? Last time I checked, there were definitely a few more unhealthy and questionable kinks around than bare feet.

What barefoot characters does his work have other than River? Maybe the Actives when not on assignment in Dollhouse?

Zoe wore boots, Buffy wore heels; you're generalizing a lot from a few character quirks.

Not to mention actresses. He didn't have to write shows with so many women roles. I am sure there are many out of work actresses who are happy that he is around.

I can just imagine an actress reading the trades, "Whedon is making a show? Alright. Guess who is going to get a paycheck again?"

Unless your a pregnant woman on a Whedon Show/movie. Then you are likely out of a job and have your character likely fridged like Cordelia was and Black Widow likely will be.

So... what, make them act while 8 months pregnant? The film industry is an INDUSTRY, first and foremost, do you have any idea how much it costs to wait over 9 months for one actress to be ready for action again? And the thing about Black Widow still remains to be seen.

You sound like a cishet white male MRA asshole.

You are trying too hard again, honeypie.
Did your parents forget to activate the kiddie safety settings on the computer again?

Yeah, he likes his actresses barefoot but not pregnant (the record does not state whether they have to make him a sammich or not). A pregnant woman implies someone other than Whedon got to sleep with her, and he won't put up with that kind of thing. If he can't lech over his actresses (and to Whedon they are *his*) then no one else can. It isn't just that he writes them out, it is one of the many tactics to deal with an actress who isn't available for whatever reason, pregnancy, just got sick of his shit, whatever; but that he writes them out in the meanest and most degrading ways possible. I am hoping that he doesn't get his way with Black Widow, but if he doesn't then it is 100% due to Disney forcing him not to alienate the base with his usual crap (not that Disney's own record is that great in this department, admittedly).

Wow, how horrible that must have been for Aly and Alexis. e_e

I don't like the idea that Feminist is some perfect ideal that you have to check every single box for, or you don't qualify. Sort of like Everyone's A Little Bit Racist, everyone has a tiny nugget of anti-women thinking. From what I can tell, he's trying, which is more than a lot of people do.

Basically it should be a sliding scale, or a grading system, and he's probably closer to a B than a F.

It's this thing today where everybody is either Perfect or Utter Evil. No middle ground.
