Given the explosion of indie development in the past few years...there are way more cutesy pixel fantasy games than there are hyperrealistic grimdark megabudget games out there.

Granted, the majority of advertising and vg coverage goes to the big AAA titles, and the sheer number of retro-inspired indies being released makes it difficult to separate the good from the enormous amount of bad.
