Tangentally related

(Anonymous) 2014-06-24 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
This secret got me thinking: Has anyone noticed that indie games (that I've noticed, I know there are a lot) are sorta following a pattern in that months ago there were a lot of indie games that were all horror-y, set in dark environments, things stalking you, etc., and now there are more that are all about survival in the wilderness against similar enemies as the first, but with more emphasis on the survival. I'm pretty sure the former was spurred on by Amnesia: The Dark Descent, but not sure what spurred the later. Anyway, what do you people think?

I don't think there's any particularly significant pattern to talk about, indie games are kind of a large portion of games and they're pretty varied. I suppose there are some that tried to follow the wave of the successful ones, but except for that, it seems like a rather varied market to me genre-wise.

Yes - but it also reminds of when I heard an indie dev talk about the indie dev community was a little incestuous in terms what liked [along with some other things that are related to the community as a whole] so that results in them doing similar projects at similar times.

Granted, that as a couple of years ago so maybe something changed...but I doubt it.
