I read something about why soap writers are leery about writing queer characters.
(Anonymous) 2014-06-25 04:20 am (UTC)(link)What happens a lot when they include a queer character in the US is that they'll introduce one other queer character and they will inevitably fall for each other and when they break up (as happens with most soap relationships) one of them with leave and another queer character will show up as if by magic (very occasionally the couple will stay together, but that means they will ride off into the sunset (and right off the show).
You'd think the answer would be include more queer characters, but apparently that's really unlikely as they are afraid the reactions of viewers, advertisers, and affiliates.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-25 11:13 am (UTC)(link)I thought about mentioning that, but some people (both heterosexual and homosexual) have some really weird (stupid) opinions about bisexual people (that they don't really count as queer if they are in a relationship with someone of the opposite sex, that they are really homosexual and are faking it, that they are really heterosexual and faking it, that they are mostly doing it for the attention, that they will have sex with anyone or anything, that they are just confused).

(Anonymous) 2014-06-25 10:49 pm (UTC)(link)BUT THAT REMINDED ME. Pregnancy is for some writers THE BEST PLOT TWIST.
One of the soaps I watched had a very, very boring, stable gay couple who was there for the sole reason of being gay. BAM! A woman with a kid appears saying it's one of the guy's. Apparently he slept with her as a teen. Needless drama happened.
