I'm a male fic writer and I've said that stuff about fanfic! But only because it's uh like actually true, like "I wrote this at 3 am while basically stoned on painkillers," the implication there being "lol don't expect much I was literally brainvomiting," not in a self-deprecating way.

I think it's very different if you do that for one particular fic to explain how it came about, and if you have a track record of saying "oh I suck" for every single thing you post.
