Re: have you ever visited a foreign country? what was your impression?

With all due respects to American (keep in mind that I'm still American), American food... kind of sucks in comparison to a lot of European food. :P Everything here is overgreased, overgrilled and supersized. Sure, food service takes forever in some countries, but you get the meal and quantity you asked for, and it's just... so much better. This isn't to say European food doesn't sometimes suck or that American food is always over-greased, sized, etc., and I will say it was nice coming back home to food service that didn't take three hours... but still, I missed the cuisine. So much.

For Pete's sake, you're American, you know how big America is and how much regional variation there is, so how are you going to act like food and cuisine is the same everywhere in the country?

My guess is that they're an American with very little experience traveling in America or trying a diverse range of foods in America.

Then you are eating at the wrong places. Because with the exception of certain food restrictions like raw milk, any cuisine you can get in Europe you can get in the US. You just need to know where to look. Stop going to chain restaurants and hit the family owned places.

I honestly think you're confused about what defines American food. That's okay, a lot of people are. There just aren't really "American" foods at all - or rather, the foods that are "American" are regional. Different areas have different foods, from clam chowder to Cajun to hotdish and so on. And a lot of those regional foods are inspired by European foods (and from immigrants of other countries, too).

Point being, American food is not defined by supersized cheeseburgers and french fries. Seriously. You should actually try different "American" foods, maybe you'll be impressed.

...do you only eat at fast-food and chain restaurants?
