Re: Do you hate anything about modern life, F!S? If so,what?

The expectation that work is the only thing in your life. My husband's hours are technically 7-4:30, but he actually works 6:30-5:30 or later. And he's expected to answer emails at home, and come in on Saturdays if they call. And travel. It's a good job, with great benefits, but the constant "above and beyond is the new standard" pisses me off.

Oh god, yes.

And the idea that just living and being happy and making your partner happy isn't enough. You always have to be the best at something, the most creative or the most active or the most educated. You have to contribute to society in some indefinable way that apparently includes having a job you hate, but doesn't include growing your own vegetables or giving your time and money to charity.

This, adding in that I hate that you're expected to have a career and want to climb up in job ranks, and if you don't, you're lazy and unambitious/unmotivated.

I don't want that. I just want a nice, quiet job that pays the bills so that I can focus my mental energy on what actually makes me happy, which is my art/crafts, cooking, and volunteering. I'm not lazy - I have lots of things that I do. They just aren't job-related, because I don't want my job to be my life.
