This is probably totally a "kids today" thing, but I hate how little freedom kids seem to have. Of course, it started in my generation - my friends could never do anything after school because they were in a bajillion activities. I just wanted free time, so I wasn't. And I mean, there's nothing wrong with kids being in a bajillion activities if that's what they want and it's good for them, but... what happened to kids being kids?

A couple of years ago when I was gardening, I actually heard kids down the street playing outside and having fun. None of this playdate crap, or being paralyzed with fear about predators, or being bombarded with summer books and essays. It made me smile.

(And don't get me started on the lack of P.E./recess... kids just don't burn off all that energy using the Common Core.)

my neighbor's kids are allowed to do whatever the hell they want, which consists of throwing balls around and screaming. they're little cretins.
