I was thinking the same thing. Unless you never went through a school system the odds are you are or have already spent a significant portion of your formative years reading plenty of things that aren't fanfiction. Maybe the people who only read fanfic in their adult free time do so as an alternative to that. It's not as if books are the only way you can learn about culture and life.

But what is it with fandom and this incessant need to be so judgmental about the often harmless ways other people choose to enjoy their free time.
