I don't only read fanfic, but it would compromise roughly 80% of what I read. Another 10% would be made up of the novels/series I constantly re-read because I love them (Harry Potter, The Hobbit, Sherlock Holmes etc) which leaves the other 10%- published fiction I haven't read before.

Why? Well for one thing I absolutely love that fanfic is accessable in a 'made-for-the-reader' kind of way. I am queer and its really hard to find good published queer fiction. Or even just fiction that has well written queer characters. I love that fanfic is so nicely tagged and essentially does what it says on the box. Perhaps that lazy or narrow minded of me but I get so disappointed when a book doesn't deliver. My free time is limited, I'm sure if I had endless hours to peruse libraries and book shops I'd read a lot more published fiction.
