Yeah, that was the one big "nope" moment from the whole season, and the one thing that, for me, kept it from being pretty much 100% perfect.

Do we really know how much forethought he put into it though? He seemed pretty surprised. It still doesn't change that he went along with it, but I don't think he had some master plan.

I think both of them acted very much in character. The scene made me chuckle.

Someone had to have oral sex with the man in the secret??? That would probably make me vomit. Not only is he old, bald, and hideous, his looks match his personality (if he tricks people into sex acts, he is a terrible person). So, so DISGUSTING.

He didn't exactly trick her, she offered, thinking it would get her out of a bad situation, and he let her go through with it, knowing full well it was too late for him to do anything, and never intending to anyway.

SO incredibly shitty though.

That was such a gross scene. Caputo has been various amounts of disgusting throughout the series, but that was just...ugh. UGH.

I'm not sure if the narrative supported what he did or not. Fig seemed pretty pathetic by the end and personally I felt sorry for her and it felt like Caputo was always that creepy and now he just finally had the power to do something like this. I'm not sure if that's what I was supposed to get out of it though since I could definitely see a show doing this as karmic punishment, unfortunately.

It's not like he planned it, though. Creepy or no, this wasn't exerting power. She fell to her knees and gave him a surprise blow job, thinking it would save her ass. He didn't say no, but he also hated her guts. And hey, free blow job.

He was exerting power though. She offered but it was because of the position that he put her in.

The correct response to a "surprise blow job" in these circumstances is to shriek and push them away.

The only way I could see it working is if they were setting Caputo up as a "meet the new boss, same as the old boss" scenario. Which does fit with him failing to fire Bennet, but doesn't fit with the fact that he's apparently trying to be a better administrator than Fig. It didn't make sense.

I could still see them doing that since Fig started out idealistic too. I mean, she was embezzling money while talking about widespread prison reform if her husband got elected. Doesn't seem too different from blackmailing your way into power and then acting nice. But I disagree that not firing Bennet is part of being a better administrator. He might see it that way, but by the rules of the prison, Bennet committed sexual assault and should be charged.

I think it was the show's way of stopping him from being too likable because I was kind of rooting for him to get control up until that point. Then the show reminded me why he's not a great person either. Maybe better than Fig when it comes to funding the prison but that's not saying much.

Oh, and that people with power abuse it.

i agree. that scene was so weird anyway, i was confused whether that scene was played for laughs. just a poor decision made by TPTB.

Just gross. So, so incredibly gross.

They are both terrible and disgusting people, so I'm didn't get karmic justice from the scene. More like two gross people doing a gross thing. But yeah, that scene was pretty awful.

and why the heck did the show make a point of "oh and he has a BIG penis too" it felt really gross and sexist to me.

I'm not defending his allowing it to happen, but I don't think he actually tricked her. Sure, he knew that he'd already spilled the beans to the higher-ups about her, and a blow job wouldn't change that. But it was a lie of omission, and she definitely took the initiative on that whole thing. I'm usually prettttty squicked out by any and all sexual humiliation and abuse, but in the end she just looked like an idiot who jumped the gun to me. He didn't demand it of her, or promise absolution if she did it. And that wasn't the face of a man who's secret plan worked, but one who was flabbergasted that this woman was actually blowing him to keep his mouth shut.

But whatever. I think Caputo is a sad sad guy. I have a hard time hating any of the 'villain' men in this show. They're so pathetic and human that I've got nothing but pity.

pretty much my reading of the scene as well — i mean, from what i remember of it, she was unzipping him before he'd even managed to really parse what was happening. of course, he could've said no and revealed the truth, but i feel like both fig and caputo were meant to be portrayed/viewed as deeply sad, pathetic people (in all aspects of their lives, but especially with regards to sex, romance (to a lesser extent), and power), and that scene just highlighted their flaws wrt that, imo.

No, it might not have been a secret plan, you're right, but he took advantage of her offer, which she made in desperation. She knew it was a gamble, but in accepting the offer, he essentially agreed that she would get what she wanted and he wouldn't tell everything. If she hadn't believed it would work, she wouldn't have offered, and she damn well wouldn't have done it.

After they finished, he told her it didn't matter because he'd already told the warden everything.

Had she known he'd already told the warden, the offer would have been rescinded.

He abused his position and his power at that moment.

I think he's pathetic, but no matter how pathetic he is or how wrong she was for what she did, it does not excuse this. He could have gotten his revenge in a different way. He chose to use her sexually.

Agreed. She jumped the gun and not just offered, but didn't lay out her terms ahead of time -- she just assumed he'd go along with it once she was done.

Agreed that he's a sad, sad fellow and that all the villain-type men are. Heck, almost all the men, period.

I agree that I didn't like that part of the show. Getting her fired was justice enough. But I didn't think he 'tricked' her.

Fig literally brought it onto herself. She deserved her humiliation. But I do want her to bring some pain onto her husband (maybe even accidentally) because he's the chief scumbag and she's just a lackey. Fig is the Starscream to her hubby's Megatron.

Caputo is totally gross but, like everyone else on the show (even Fig) I feel for and even like him. I have no problems with him getting off in her mouth. I'm just disappointed that it didn't turn into an affair between them and
