Erm...Well. Fat Tire Amber Ale is supposed to be pretty good I hear, and there are the general big brands you could try [Shiner, Miller, Budwiser]. The only other big-ish beer brand here is one that you just flat out can't get outside of this state unless it was special ordered for whatever reason. So...yeah.

Other than that...the area I live is a huge home brew/craft brew area [seriously, we even have one of, if not the, largest home brew competitions/communities in the US]. So that's more a part of our drinking habits than anything. But I can answer questions about that?

SA

I should note: When I say "The only other big brand here" I do mean my state. ^^;; Sorry, just re-read it and realize that's probably not how it came off.

I was going to say Fat Tire as well.

Er, well... the problem is, "good" and "well known" don't always go together, but it depends on how you define well known. I'd aim more for smaller breweries, especially ones local to a particular region. That said, BF loves most of the stuff from Stone Brewing Co., especially Double Bastard and Sublimely Self-Righteous Black IPA. Abita is out of Louisiana and is well known enough to turn up in the Midwest. Their amber ale is good, and BF likes the Turbodog as well.

Bud Lite

Not sure what you like or what's available, but Anchor Steam, Sierra Nevada, and Fat Tire are pretty reliable things that are also reasonably widely available. Sierra Nevada's a reasonably representative American IPA I guess. IDK it really depends on what's there.

I like Kodiak bears because they scare the bejeezus out of me BUT they live far away from where I am so I can enjoy their badassery and yet still remain uneaten!

I'm trying to think of what you could get internationally. Most of the beers I like have limited distribution (my absolute favorite beer in the history of ever, for example, is not sold where I live, and it's seasonal on top of that. The only time I get to have it is when I visit my friends in New Jersey during the correct time of year).

For big names, if you care about beer, then don't do Budweiser. Please, for the love of god, don't do Budweiser. You will be so upset with yourself. Samuel Adams is acceptable, but don't do their Boston Lager. Harpoon is decent, particularly the IPA and UFO. I tend to like Long Trail and Sierra Nevada's offerings, as well. Ummm...it's probably too much to hope for, but if you see Shed's Mountain Ale, give that a go.

I dunno. I wish you could, like, take a picture of the American Beer section of wherever you're going so we could make judgments off that. Like I said, I have some beers that I really love, but I doubt they're sold outside of the states.

But Budweiser has the best commercials. Such gorgeous Clydesdales.

Other than that, I got nothing, but I can't stand the taste of beer unless it's cooked in something.

I'm curious what your favorite beer is that you can only get in New Jersey. I live there so I'm wondering what's your favorite.

I know Brooklyn is super popular around here but I'm not a beer drinker so I can't recommend any.

Riverhorse's Oatmeal Milk Stout.

There was a period of time where it was available where I was living in CT, but they stopped selling it in that county a couple of years ago. And now I'm in MA, so I'm really SOL.

I've had a couple of Brooklyn's beers. Honestly, I got really sick off their Double Chocolate Stout, so I kind of got soured on them. :-/

Speaking as a non-beer drinking American, I think Paps Blue Ribbon is relatively famous; they really like it in China apparently, though state side I believe it is considered a drink that people who are considered hipsters drink ironically, and might be considered rather redneck-y.

PBR is basically a macrobrew comparable to Miller or Budweiser. It's mostly well know for being relatively drinkable and cheap as shit. It does have a bit of strange old-school/ironic cachet with hipsters but I think the cheapness is the bigger deal. So it's definitely well known but not something I would recommend. I'm not saying people shouldn't drink it, it's pretty good for what it is, but it's not really a good beer any more than Miller or Bud are.

i shamelessly order pbr at bars sometimes. it's basically water but i really like the yeasty aftertaste.

i have no idea what's considered well known but i've never really been led astray by blue moon, yuengling, or magic hat. sam adams is the most generic beer in the entire world and i wouldn't suggest it. not going to touch budweiser/coors/natty light and you shouldn't either. i seem to like european beers better though /o\

On South Park, PBR was treated as a redneck beer so I forever associate that beer with rednecks lol.

I'm not huge on beer but I like Shiner Bock? And my roommate likes Samuel Adams. I'm not a connoisseur or anything though so...

The only beer I like is Red's Apple Ale, and I will admit I'm more of an Alcopop, wine, spirits and liquor drinker.

I think Sam Adams is among the best nationally available beers. Some of their seasonal brews are quite nice, mmm spring's Cold Snap. Don't know if there's Sam Adams in Sweden though! And don't get "lite" beer, that bottled piss gives us a bad name. ;____; Fat Tire and Dogfish are good too though.

I hate the flavor of hops so I pretty much exclusively drink wheat beers and ciders, but here goes:

-Blue Moon and Sam Adams are both pretty good and occupy this strange space between microbrew and big nationwide chain--they're marketed like local beers and tend to have seasonal variations, but they're available all over.

-My roommate in grad school loved Shock Top.

-I hear good things about Magic Hat, but I don't know if it would be available in Sweden.

-Leinenkugel's is the regional beer for the upper Midwest, and I've always enjoyed their Summer Shandy. I would be very surprised to see it in a Swedish liquor store though.

-Angry Orchard or Woodchuck Ciders have never let me down.
