Re: what are some good well-known american beers?

I'm trying to think of what you could get internationally. Most of the beers I like have limited distribution (my absolute favorite beer in the history of ever, for example, is not sold where I live, and it's seasonal on top of that. The only time I get to have it is when I visit my friends in New Jersey during the correct time of year).

For big names, if you care about beer, then don't do Budweiser. Please, for the love of god, don't do Budweiser. You will be so upset with yourself. Samuel Adams is acceptable, but don't do their Boston Lager. Harpoon is decent, particularly the IPA and UFO. I tend to like Long Trail and Sierra Nevada's offerings, as well. Ummm...it's probably too much to hope for, but if you see Shed's Mountain Ale, give that a go.

I dunno. I wish you could, like, take a picture of the American Beer section of wherever you're going so we could make judgments off that. Like I said, I have some beers that I really love, but I doubt they're sold outside of the states.

But Budweiser has the best commercials. Such gorgeous Clydesdales.

Other than that, I got nothing, but I can't stand the taste of beer unless it's cooked in something.

They do have wonderful commercials...and that's how they get you!!

(That and being dirt cheap, ha)

I can't get past the taste. Even expensive beers just...yuck.

But I just love the Clydesdales.

Yeah, beer is definitely one of those love it or hate it type things.

This is gonna seem like a really weird question, but bare with me. Do you happen to dislike the taste of raw vegetables?

Nope. I love pretty much all veggies, cooked, raw, whatever. Just not onions. And when I was a kid, the acid in tomatoes burned my mouth too much for me to eat them.

Drats!

I read some years ago that they'd found a correlation between people who like the taste of raw vegetables and people who like the taste of beer. I've been asking people who dis/like raw vegetables and people who dis/like beer whether they dis/like the other ever since.

I figured that from the question, but it's nice to have it clarified.

Another data point for you: I'm fine with some raw vegetables (carrots, bell peppers, cucumbers, celery, spinach) but I dislike beer and all alcohol. It just tastes terrible to me.

Thank you for chiming in!

Now I feel like I'm a researcher or something. But I'm not. I'm just a woman with a dream.

I'm curious what your favorite beer is that you can only get in New Jersey. I live there so I'm wondering what's your favorite.

I know Brooklyn is super popular around here but I'm not a beer drinker so I can't recommend any.

Riverhorse's Oatmeal Milk Stout.

There was a period of time where it was available where I was living in CT, but they stopped selling it in that county a couple of years ago. And now I'm in MA, so I'm really SOL.

I've had a couple of Brooklyn's beers. Honestly, I got really sick off their Double Chocolate Stout, so I kind of got soured on them. :-/

This sounds intriguing and now I will have to see where I can find this beer. Thanks for the heads up!

I'm not a fan of Brooklyn but I know everyone else loves it.

It's super tasty, and more complex than other oatmeal stouts I've had. But it's only out during the winter (perhaps to make people feel better about it being winter...?).
