Thinking you're creepy when you just like someone
(Anonymous) 2014-06-28 03:06 am (UTC)(link)But now, I find myself plagued by the thought that if I do this people will think I'm creepy. And like there's a part of me that knows this is ridiculous, because how does anyone make friends if they don't show that they like a person? But I am always rationing my comments and doing my best to not appear too interested in someone.
Has anyone else felt this way? How do you combat it?

How do you combat it? In both fandom and RL it's the same: Try to imagine yourself in the shoes of the person you like -- how would you want someone who liked your posts and fics to treat you? Would you like them to comment on your fics and posts? Would you like them to show they liked you? And how would you like them to show it? How much information about how they feel about you would you want them to disclose?
Then, act towards them the way you'd want them to act towards you. If you mess up, well, no matter -- you can send them a clarifying PM if you're afraid they think you're weird. Just be sincere. Really -- it's pretty hard to go wrong with sincerity, as long as you stop and think and try to picture it from their point of view before you hit 'post' to make sure you're communicating clearly.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-28 03:24 am (UTC)(link)Normally I just try to keep it toned down, but since I'm not good at that, I also tell people outright to let me know if I'm creeping them out, and apologize in advance, explain that I tend to be intense and not realize it.
