I'm so confused at the reaction. Like literally everyone calling them trash uses unofficial scanlations that the author doesn't want up.

yeah me too, i think that the reaction is so strong because of the doujinshi being scanlated. artists are feeling their wallets being threatened. i've seen a big uproar over this on twitter where a lot of artists are. with conventions coming up, artists are releasing a lot of doujinshi, fanbooks, and artbooks. i can't afford any doujinshi or fanbooks or merch so i'm going to get it where i can. when i have a source of income i'll start paying back to the fandom and the people who put so much time and effort into fanworks. i've never bought a doujinshi and uploaded it elsewhere but i appreciate the people who do, especially the ones who scanlate.

when it comes to manga, i don't know how many scanlation groups block ip addresses but i'd assume it's more than just them.

Yeah, and blocking IP addresses is just another form of making sure only the people you want to see the content can.

Kind of like, you know, scanlation groups on LJ who lock their works. Or people who post to moderated forums with strict entry guidelines.

It's also ONLY in the Free! fandom that September has ever had this problem. Smells like fandom politics to me.
