I like the actress and the way she plays Dany but I still kind of agree with you. I usually skip through her parts whenever I re-watch episodes. You'd think that the storyline involving dragons would be more interesting...

[personal profile] peablossom 2014-06-30 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Just wait til next season. The true boredom of her storyline has yet to arrive.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-01 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
LOL! I haven't read the books, so I really don't know, but I think they should keep you out of marketing for GOT. And yet, I'm still LOLing. Maybe there is room for truth in advertising!

In my opinion, everything in the story goes downhill from here.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-30 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Confession: I mostly skimmed Dany's POV in the books after she got into that whole "let's liberate all the cities oh shit this isn't working abort abort" thing and I'm hoping it gets more interesting soon.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-30 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
+1, which I was sad about because she was one of my two favorite characters in the beginning. I still love her but gosh does her story get boring. (Though I thought the books got boring generally by that point.)

I think they're having trouble with that storyline, and they know it, which s why they've padded it up with some stuff.

But, I do actually think it's interesting and crucial. If she has any hope of even wanting to sit on the iron throne, she needs to prove she can actually rule.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-30 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I see it as one of those moments that's important for character development, but not necessarily interesting to watch. It feels like it's happening so Dany will have something to do before the obvious goal of attempting to claim the Iron Throne.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-30 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree. I think there's an unfortunate undercurrent of Dany "practicing" on "less civilized" people so she can actually know what the hell she's doing when she gets to the, er, more important Westeros (see, unfortunate subtext), but she's clearly a bit of a mess. She needs to figure out what sort of queen she wants to be and how to do that.

I love secrets about this character strictly because yes, she's gorgeous and I like to look at her. You apparently aren't alone in finding her boring though (a friend of mine was a huge fan until the last couple books; her storyline sounds like it should be interesting, but maybe the execution failed).

(Anonymous) 2014-06-30 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I, too, think she's gorgeous.. but as you said, after Khal Drogo dies (well, a little further than that; I really loved the her story in the 2nd season with the House of the Undying). It doesn't help that her acting is atrocious, either. Pretty to look at, not to listen to.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-01 06:16 pm (UTC)(link)
to each their own! i love emilia's acting and i'd watch the whole show about her (
& her voice omg ♥)

(Anonymous) 2014-06-30 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
haha, it's funny when i see people going "the story and characters are boring, but i LOVE the nudity and porn!!!" since that's the first thing i expect from a fan of this show, judging from the episodes i saw.

I personally like seeing her storyline but eh, different strokes.

And certainly agreed that she's gorgeous.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-01 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
So basically you were just interested in her story as long as it pertained to being Khal Drogo's wife and not the whole character she continued to become without him?

Okay.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-01 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
Or maybe they were interested in her story at that point because stuff actually happened and didn't just sit there spinning its wheels like her story is currently doing.

Feminism is an awesome, incredible thing... but it isn't automatically A+ entertainment, angry anon. It depends on how well it's done. The fact that you seem to think feminism = quality storytelling is well meaning, but it suggests you don't quite understand either concept.

I seriously can't stand her any more. The whole GOOD PERSON FREEDOM SAVIOR who solves everything with ABSOLUTE OVERWHELMING FORCE and whom everyone adores except, like, the creepy assholes she's about to set on fire is just...uhg. Really?

I didn't really care about her in first season either (I mean, the plan was still for her to reclaim 'her' throne, also derived by absolute dragon-backed force from her ancestors, with vast hordes of pillaging dothraki, so, definitely an improvement on the other assholes trying to rule westeros, except not really) but at least the stuff about her learning to have some independence and joy and human connection in a new culture and in a complicated socio/emotional/sexual dynamic and dodging assassinations and angling her ambitions was vaguely interesting. Now I'm actively repulsed, and eye candy does not make up for it.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-01 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
Dany is probably the worst and most boring POV character in the books, and it's even more unbearable because she has more chapters than everyone (barring maybe Tyrion-who also became boring in ADWD, Jon, and Arya).

[personal profile] philstar22 2014-07-01 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
This is how I feel about Jon's parts. He's pretty. Really pretty. Though I wish he were naked more. But his actual storyline is really boring and i tend to skim them or watch on mute.

Isn't that the reason most people watch this show in the first place?

Funny, she's about the only part of the show I care about, except the occasional bits with Cersei and Sansa. I really like both Dany's character and how the actress carries her - frankly, she could monologue to the wall for ten minutes straight and I'd be like "hmm, fascinating".

(Anonymous) 2014-07-01 08:40 am (UTC)(link)
YAWN.

I'm bored with these kind of secrets now. Yes, yes, you're all very edgy, now move along.

Same, same, same. Although I didn't even like her much before Drogo's death. It's funny, I actually dig most of the people on her side. Missandei, Grey Worm, Jorah, they're all cool, and her interactions with them are reasonably interesting. But leave her to rule or do anything at all with those fucking dragons, and I'm bored to tears. Just take me back to King's Landing or any of the odd couple storylines.
