No. Lilo and Stitch was about an ALIEN and a young girl. The sister's relationship was like plot D. Plot A: Stitch learning to be nice and whatever Plot B: Stitch avoiding being captured. Plot C: The older sister avoiding Lilo getting take away by child protective services Plot D: The sister's relationship.

In frozen, Plot A is about the sisters and other plots follow that.

The relationship between the sisters in Frozen was completely secondary to Anna's relationship with Kristoff, Anna's character development, and finally, Elsa's powers. The Frozen sisters don't even begin to have the complex interaction that Lilo and Nani do throughout the movie. They barely feel like real siblings, more like acquaintances.

As someone who has an extremely strained relationship with their brother (to the point where we are practically acquaintances) due to him being very closed off and guarded, I related much more to the Frozen sisters than Lilo and Nani. It's nice to have different variations of sibling relationships in fiction and I don't see why one is more valid simply because they have more "complex interactions".

I would have loved a movie that was full of Elsa and Anna having a ton of extremely strained and distant interactions - I would have considered that just as complex as Lilo and Nani's closeness, because, like you said, there's all kinds of variations of sibling relationships. My issue was not with the type of sibling interaction, but the lack of much interaction. Which, to me, doesn't make it a movie about the relationship between the sisters, but a movie that involves sisters, secondary to everything else.

Personally, I think both thoughts are valid. It makes sense that they don't behave much like sisters because they seem to have been kept separate most of their lives, but really, for a movie that is about them rebuilding a true connection, Frozen does not have them talk enough. One emotional duet where they're singing two totally different themes (Anna: "We can do this together!", Elsa: "Leave me alone!") does not really make for good communication.

Yeah, their distance makes complete sense, but the opportunity to make the movie about them trying to bridge that distance was largely wasted. Their duet only pushed them further apart, and then their reconciliation felt like kind of an...afterthought. Maybe it would have worked better if they stuck with Elsa being the villain and had Anna struggling to redeem her, I dunno.

Can you really blame people for not remembering a movie that came out a decade ago, and whose sequels and series were all about the alien and the little girl?

I don't understand why people have to claim that the movie is innovative. I love Frozen. I just don't understand some of the arguments my fellow fans make to justify their love for it.

Because it came during their time. Why is this so hard to get? Most young people (and you'd be surprised how YOUNG certain fandoms skews) did not grow up with Lilo and Stitch, they did not get to be in the fandom. You can't share enthusiasm for something with a dead-ish fandom; it doesn't have the same appeal. So the press billed it as innovative-- we've been betrayed by the paragon of objectivity that the press is.

And then people are like "you should appreciate THIS movie instead" when it makes no sense.

Yeah, it shouldn't be "How dare you!" it should be: "Oh, you like that? Then you'd probably like this other cool thing."

Who knows? They might start linking your thing more the their original thing (or not).

Yeah, there's a lot to like about L&S! But I've seen great photo-sets where the author (or the most popular reblog) included a dig about how everyone who didn't appreciate it above Frozen was racist, and that's so off-putting. I don't get how they'd think that would help spread love for the movie.

And the previous decade of Disney Feature Animation stuff has been pretty blah, except for the chronically underrated Frog story.

Lilo and Stitch never made the contrast between romantic love and familial love.

It's not the same. Nani's love-life isn't something most young children are going to be concerned about; Nani is not the audience surrogate character, Lilo is. Big sister/brother characters tend to be seen as just that, and when was the last time a young sibling got to really care about their big sister's romantic interests? If Nani and Lilo's relationship was plot B (and it was), Nani and David's relationship was plot L.

It's not an ensemble cast movie. Lilo and Stitch are the sole protagonists.

No. I am so fucking sick of this. I love L&S, but it's called Lilo & Stitch, not Lilo & Nani. It's about an alien and a little girl, and the relationship of the sisters is secondary. Nani gets to sit back and do absolutely nothing in the way of Lilo's rescue. Hell, they could have taken our a large majority of the sisters and lost family plot and just made Lilo a weird girl and shit would still make sense.

Frozen, at least, has the relationship of the sisters be the goddamned point and what saves everything.
