Snape/Anyone. When I was a teenager, I thought I was somehow doing fandom wrong because I didn't love Snape.

I thought I was the only one!/Milhouse

Snape was a miserable bastard with a chip on his shoulder. He spent the first half his life as a nasty bigot with a violent streak and a persecution complex and the second half as an embittered asshole who took his aggression out on children. Yes, he had a few noble moments interspersed in there, but he brought all of his tragedy on himself and even at the time of "Snape's Worst Memory," the only way for him and Lily to be happy together would have been for one or both of them to be completely different people.

That said... people do like to ship the broken ones.

You know, I'm a little surprised that Snape/Sirius doesn't get a bigger following after the last book. They were both profoundly broken by the death of the Potters, and their lives run parallel in interesting ways, which usually leads to porn in fandom circles.

Because even misanthropes need love too.

I think before OoTP, it was very easy to woobify Snape (I think even people who didn't like him were expecting him to suddenly be a bit nicer and overall far more sympathetic), and even after OoTP people continued to. I know a lot of fandom came and went between OoTP and DH, but I still feel that three years defined a lot of fandom stuff, even if people weren't necessarily there for it. Does that make sense?
