(Anonymous) 2014-07-01 12:33 am (UTC)(link)Snape was a miserable bastard with a chip on his shoulder. He spent the first half his life as a nasty bigot with a violent streak and a persecution complex and the second half as an embittered asshole who took his aggression out on children. Yes, he had a few noble moments interspersed in there, but he brought all of his tragedy on himself and even at the time of "Snape's Worst Memory," the only way for him and Lily to be happy together would have been for one or both of them to be completely different people.
That said... people do like to ship the broken ones.
You know, I'm a little surprised that Snape/Sirius doesn't get a bigger following after the last book. They were both profoundly broken by the death of the Potters, and their lives run parallel in interesting ways, which usually leads to porn in fandom circles.
