Yeah no. The book definitely has heart.

But I do agree that the movies did make Thorin more three-dimensional and fleshed out, while he's hard to suss out in the book. That's the one thing that's sorta good about them. Mind you, I don't really like the fleshed-out, three-dimensional character that resulted, but I suppose that's more my problem, I think, not the movie's.
