Harry/Ginny. The pairing seemed way to forced and contrived in canon for me to buy it for a second, plus I was really put-off by the implication that Harry/Ginny is a James/Lily karmic do-over.

Ew ew ew. I'm a H/G shipper and I HATE that reasoning. First, while Ginny is also a redhead, I see her as more ginger. Lily, not so much. Second, I've always felt that Ron was more James than Harry, incidentally - Harry's more Sirius 2.0. Which makes Hermione Lily, I guess? But even then, not really. They're their own people.

But yeah, I first fell in love with H/G because I liked how direct Ginny was with him in OoTP. I love Ron and Hermione and their friendship with Harry, I would never undermind that, but sometimes Ginny was the only one who could really get through to him. I liked that.
