Owh, a Johnny's pair! \o/ Well if we're listing them then for me it's Fujigaya/Kitayama, can never and will never understand why.

Them being hot together is an invalid reason tbh.

Oh, same. It seems to me they're just thrown together because they're the most popular or something. I don't see anything there at all.

Sterek is, I think, primarily the result of Stiles being the most popular character and Derek being a pile of angst, which is a combination that most fandoms like a lot even without the snarky action the two shared a few times. Also, since the Sterek fic explosion happened right after season 2, the only girl Stiles had really expressed an interest in had just saved her boyfriend with the power of love, and season 3 hadn't happened to screw Derek's tragic backstory.

In terms of the general fandom, I'd be more surprised that Stiles/Scott wasn't the juggernaut, except the show literally bashed you in the face with the Scott/Allison. Some people have a hard time breaking up really blatant canon pairings.
