I'd agree that movie Thorin has more personality than book Thorin - for the most part, none of the dwarves were that developed, and I don't really remember Thorin having much depth even if he had certain characteristics. But I don't really think movie Thorin is that likable, or interesting. Which is also, incidentally, how I felt about both of the movies. But hey, third one's a charm... maybe?

Nah, if you didn't like him in the first movies you're not going to in the third.

well he does, presumably, die in the third film and sometimes death scenes seem to redeem characters for people so I guess it's possible
