It's rather moot, isn't it? Neither of them got to be a father.

James would have made a better teacher, though. He'll, a bucket on a coat rack would make a better teacher.

I don't agree that Snape is a bad teacher. He's a jerk, but not a bad teacher.

Have you seen the post going around on tumblr about what Gordon Ramsay would have been like as a potion's master? Because he would have been a good teacher, not Severus "You screwed up a potion and it could be deadly so instead of actually doing my job and teaching you how to do it right because you're a first year and I'm a teacher I'm going to make you feed it to your toad and did I mention he could die?" Snape.

I mean, it's not long, just an idea and some tags, but it sums up why Gordon Ramsay would be a better teacher than Snape ever was imo

AYRT

No, but Gordon Ramsay would have been hilarious as potions master. "NOW YOU REALLY FUCKED IT UP! I'VE NEVER SEEN SUCH A SLOTHFUL MEASURE OF FUCKS AS YOU FUCKITY FUCKS! TEN POINTS FROM GRYFFINDOR!"

looks like you've never seen how he acts around kids. hint: he doesn't yell at all.

It's probably like the cook-off against the Swedish Chef. He says "Bleep" a lot because it's the bleeping Muppets. Families could be bleeping watching!

He's amazing with kids. I can't wait for Masterchef Junior's second season.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-02 04:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, he's actually great with kids. And dammit now I'm obsessed with this stupid AU. His N.E.W.T.-level students would be so fucked, though.

AYRT

My version is funnier. ;)

Speaking as a teacher-- he's a bad teacher.

AND a jerk.

And if James had more than a year to practice, he'd probably have been a pretty good father.

I like Snape as a character but I literally have no idea how anyone can claim that he was actually a good teacher. Are you sure you aren't thinking of...some other character?

(Anonymous) 2014-07-02 08:33 am (UTC)(link)
Of course he's a bad teacher. A good teacher teaches, meaning they impart knowledge to their students. Snape is so nasty that his students, other than the Slytherins whom he favours, spend all their time responding to his bullying and insults rather than being able to learn.

Look at how well Neville does when Lupin takes him under his wing. That's good teaching--encouraging students and making them feel capable so they can learn.

I can't think of a single instance in which Snape successfully teaches anyone anything. He can't even teach Harry Occlumency, which was kind of vital to the whole anti-Voldemort cause. He can't get over his own issues to teach Harry the way he needed to be taught (meaning kindly and patiently, rather than with a barrage of goading and insults).

is this, like, the whole firm but fair thing Snapefen go on about?
philstar22: (Neville)

[personal profile] philstar22 2014-07-03 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
Snape is a horrible teacher. He doesn't teach. He just puts the potion recipe up and expects everyone to get it perfectly without warning them of what could go wrong. He yells when people get things wrong. He terrifies his students and scares all the non-Slytherins away from ever liking potions.
