That's sort of sad, but, you really have no way of knowing what happened. If the cat was just let loose, chances are it just ran under a car or something and there was no malice involved.

I hope so.

The owners still shouldn't have let the cat run around outside, though, I feel like, and that's what upsets me more than the other things.

Is that so uncommon where you live? There have always been a lot of outdoor cats around where I live. And yeah, sometimes that does put them at risk, but then the alternative might also not be great.

Where we live it is.

Also, this cat was apparently really bothering people, to the point where the apartment manager was getting complaints about them (she told me this while we were talking about my cat), which is a problem when you live in an apartment, and not when you can fix by just shrugging and not changing anything.

If that's true, then the owners should indeed have known better. Sadly, you need a permit to drive a car, but not to own pets or have kids, so incompetent people will sadly have them.

They should have.

I guess in the end, they're who I'm mad at more than anyone else.
