People demanding all cats be indoors because they kill too many animals. As far as I'm concerned, unless you have a huge house trapping your cat inside is cruel. Plus, there are ways to prevent your cat killing animals and to keep them safe - collars with bells, keeping your backyard enclosed, and keeping your cats inside at night, for two.

What about people keeping cats indoors because of traffic, disease, and other dangers? Is it just keeping cats indoors or any reason, or certain reasons?

As someone who lives in a city, fuck that. Too many cars, too many assholes. And lol @ the idea that a fence is going to keep a cat in a yard if it wants to get out. Do you have any clue how high cats can jump?

Indoor cats are healthier and safer than outdoor cats, and a lot of veterinarians recommend keeping your cat inside. I wouldn't go so far as to say that people who let their cats outdoors unsupervised are negligent, but there's nothing cruel about wanting to keep your cat safe from traffic, predators, assholes, and other dangers.

Keeping your cat inside might be cruel. But it is much, MUCH more cruel to let your cat out in an unsafe area, where the cat could easily be victim to traffic, wild animals, or sick, horrible humans.

A lot of people are 100% one way or the other. I can understand letting your cat outside if you lived in a more secluded, residential area in a safe neighborhood, away from busy streets and preferably with an enclosed backyard. But those are ideal conditions that a lot of people don't have.

Now, I agree that it can be unfair to a cat to keep them inside a tiny apartment. But it doesn't always have to be one way or the other. Harness training cats is always a possibility. I knew someone who did that when she lived in the big city, she actually walked her cat on a leash. Otherwise, owners really should have enough time to play with the cat every day to ensure its getting enough exercise and mental stimulation.

...and just a sidenote, it is kind of strange to me that your beef is with the "kill too many animals" argument. Depending on where you live and what your cat has hunting access to, that seems like a pretty legitimate reason to keep your cat indoors.
