Well I have never really seen what is so great about the Legolas/Gimli friendship anyway, and really, Orlando Bloom didn't make it any more appealing to me, but still, I do see what you mean.

My objection to them is on a far my person, and subjective level, as I simply don't like them for shipping reasons. I'd rather imagine Kíli with someone else, someone not elven for that matter. But it's because I went in to the cinema with that attitude that I can ignore what was in DoS of them. I do worry about the level of deniability of them in the third movie.
