I think being able to find textual discussions and meta really depends on the people you're following and the sort of circles you run in, to be honest. It does make it pretty hard to find when you don't know where to look, though.

There's also the problem where someone might post something, and a week later it's just... impossible to find. They might have posted the best meta you were ever looking for, but if they didn't tag it and they post sixty times a day, good luck finding it again. Or you might have bookmarked it! In which case they might delete or move or rename and then, again, good luck even finding the person on tumblr ever again.

I suppose it's not as if things being deleted on LJ or elsewhere never happened, but I certainly feel like the window of being able to find and locate things is a lot smaller on tumblr.
