Well I don't know about worshipping him precisely, but I do like Studio Ghibli films. They are always beautiful - practically works of art. God, the background art alone....

I'm actually not too bothered about them as stories, but I think that's (non-existent) kids in a heartbeat though.

*but I think that's because I'm too old for them. I would show them to my (non-existent) kids in a heartbeat though.

FFS, keyboard!

That's a huge failing for me. The movies are pretty to look at, but some of them don't reach their potential as stories, even though they could. Some do get there, other's ALMOST do, and it's pretty frustrating.

Castle in The Sky comes to mind. It's a fun movie but man are the characters flat and the world-building even more so (I guess it can get a pass since it was the studio's first...)

It was also based on the TV treatment for what Gainax would eventually animate: Nausicaa the Secret of Blue Water... so perhaps what it needed was more time, since Nausicaa is fantastic in terms of characterization (at least as kids shows go).

For myself I like most of Miyazaki's movies well enough in character and plot, even when they're not deep they maintain a level of fun that makes them a joy to watch.

Porco Rosso, Kiki, Castle of Cagliostro... all great, but I will admit to being a major heretic here... I am bored to death by Totoro, love the designs, but the movie just bores me.

Yes I meant Nadia >_> had a bit of a brain fart there I was busy trying to think of Ghibli films for the bottom paragraph, and my wires got crossed. Sorry.
