Bah. The Arishok was one of my favs from DA2 (so much that I stopped playing when I saw Act II was going to make me either kill him or betray Isabella), so this kills any lingering interest I might have had about playing DAI.

(I was actually more interested in seeing Qunari females anyhow.)

You can play as a qunari female - not the same as a companion, but pretty sweet, IMO.

how much Qunari lore are they including? I was always curious about how the females fit in, considering that the Qunari were pretty much "you are assogned a caste and a profession at birth" sort of society. (I have this vague notion that males were warriors and women were scholars?)

It's the same lore as usual, you play as a Vashoth, a qunari born outside of the Qun. Vashoth don't follow the rules of the Qun at all, and they're uncommon but not so uncommon that it violates the lore, since we've encountered Vashoth mercenaries since the first game.

As for the role of women in the Qun, you're right that they're barred from being soldiers and are slotted into being scholars, priests, artisans, and merchants, but women and men alike can join the Ben-Hassrath, a branch of the Qun dedicated to enforcing religious law, and they're trained in espionage and defensive combat. Iron Bull and Tallis, a female elven Qunari, are both members of the Ben-Hassrath.

Tallis as in Felicia Day Tallis?

Yep, one and the same.

Men are *soldiers*--women can be warriors or fighters, but it would be under a different part of the Qun than the military one. Tallis, for instance, is a skilled fighter endorsed by the Qun.

The Qunari female Bioware used during one of their E3 demos was gorgeous. I knew I was going to play a female Qunari Inquisitor first try but seeing her in action solidified that goal. Though instead of being a rogue I may in fact go mage first go round. It really depends on my mood.
